Kate Starre

Kate is a nurse practitioner by training and potter by passion, she found her way to ceramics through a longing to create. Living in the artisan-rich mountains of Western North Carolina, Kate began hermjourney with community college classes during a quiet season in life — and quickly fell in love with wheel throwing and never stopped.

Kate’s work often features sgraffito, a carving technique that she uses to tell meaningful stories through clay. A favorite project was making hand-carved Yunomi for her wedding, each reflecting a moment in the journey of her relationship. Today, she continues to craft story-driven pottery for others, creating pieces that celebrate love, nature, and life’s small rituals.
